‘No place like Whitby’ says Jeremy Clarkson

‘There is no place quite like Whitby’ according to Jeremy Clarkson, as reported in this week’s Whitby Gazette.

Filming in Whitby for the new Amazon TV show was completed last Thursday and Friday, and the big ‘Grand Tour’ studio marquee on Endeavour Wharf has now been dismantled.

The stars of the show sang the praises of Whitby and its surroundings, describing the road over the North York Moors from Pickering to Whitby as ‘stunning’, ‘epic’ and ‘one of the best drives in the country’. They also praised Whitby for its world famous fish and chips.

Whitby is very well supplied with many excellent fish and chip shops, both large and small. ‘The  Magpie’ has been described by tv chef Rick Stein as serving ‘the best fish and chips in the world’. It seems that Jeremy Clarkson’s favourite in Whitby is ‘Mr Chips’, although ‘Quayside’ has been voted the best in recent years. Locals often vote for ‘Riverside Fisheries’ and now ‘Trenchers’ and ‘The Fisherman’s Wife’ have both made the UK’s Top 10 in the 2017 National Fish and Chips Awards.
